Softball: Stout Pitching by Quadros Not Enough As Hawks Fall in Game Two

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University softball team suffered a tough 1-0 loss against Wheaton College on Tuesday afternoon in the second game of their doubleheader at Paolino Field, in a pitching dual.

Despite the loss, Roger Williams' pitcher Kiera Quadros threw a complete game, allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out four. Peyton Blankenheim-Brown, who improved to 5-1 on the season, tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out six while allowing just two hits. She worked around the few baserunners Roger Williams managed, including an RWU sixth-inning double, to secure the victory.

Shortstop Shannon Starratt provided one of the Hawks' two hits, doubling down the right-field line in the sixth inning to put the tying run in scoring position. Vianna Chamberlain also contributed with a single in the third inning, but Roger Williams was unable to capitalize on its limited opportunities.

Wheaton (14-2) broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Blankenheim-Brown drew a walk and later scored on an RBI double to left-center field by Taylor Barry. That lone run proved to be the difference as Blankenheim-Brown shut down the Hawks' offense the rest of the way.

Roger Williams (7-7, 0-0 CNE) will open Conference of New England (CNE) play on Friday afternoon as they host Gordon for their CNE opener.  The Hawks are then scheduled to travel to Hartford on Saturday, Mar. 29 at 12:00 pm for another conference doubleheader.
