AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team fell on Saturday morning to Allegheny, 20-5, in a non-conference matchup at the RussMatt Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park.
The Gators offense erupted or 18 hits, while scoring 20 runs, while the defense did not commit an error. Matt Jennings tallied four hits for the Gators with 5 RBIs in five at bats, while JD Robinson and Tyler Skaggs each had three hits each. On the mound, Walker Cunningham picked up the win pitching 5.1 innings for Alleghany in the win.
For Roger Williams,
Conor Quinlan took the loss, allowing four earned runs, with six hits and five walks.
Jack Tubman was the lone Hawk to record an extra base hit, hitting a single and a double.
Alleghany scored the first run of the game in the opening inning, with Jennings standing on second following a passed ball, Liam Irving hit a ball to right field driving in the run. Alleghany added two runs in the second, before the offense exploded in the third, as they took a commanding 12-0 lead.
After adding eight runs in the fourth, the game remained 20-0 in favor of Alleghany, before
Sam Arcieri hit a ball through the middle with the bases loaded, bringing in a pair of runs.
Chris Balzano added another two runs shortly after, bringing in Arcieri and
Luke Dowd. Roger Williams added another run in the seventh after Tubman doubled to right center brining in
Noah Hester from first.
Roger Williams (1-2, 0-0 CNE) will face off against UMass Dartmouth on Sunday, Mar. 9 as they continue RussMatt Invitational play.
