NASHUA, N.H. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team secured a 14-11 victory over Rivier University on Saturday afternoon at Merrill Field in non-conference action.
Jack Kester led the way for the Hawks with four goals and four assists.
Eric Brooks added four points with a pair of goals and two assists, while
Harison Steffens,
Matt Kennedy, and
Matt Hemmert each added a goa and assist in the matchup. Nine different Hawks scored goals on the day.
Defensively,
Kyle Zirn and
Xander Daigneault each had three caused turnovers, while picking up five and four ground balls respectively.
Aaron D'Aversa made 19 saves in cage.
For Rivier, Michael Ference had seven points scorring three goals and four assists, while Chris Heitmiller added three goals. Robert DelPrete had two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls, while Sawyer Gagnon stopped 12 shots in net.
Roger Williams University scored three goals in the opening three minutes before Rivier scored with Ference converting his shot. With the Hawks leading 5-2, Rivier closed the first quarter scoring three straight to close the frame, knotting up the game at the end of the opening quarter.
Steffens scored in the opening minute of the second quarter before Sawyer Hall answered for the Raiders. The Hawks then scored back-to-back goals from Hemmert and Brooks, before a man-up goal cut the deficit back down to one. RWU responded with goals by
Ryan Vendetti and Kester to take a 10-7 lead into the half.
Coming out of the break, Rivier again pulled within one after scoring the opening two goals, but Kester struck back to back to take a 12-9 lead. A goal by Zeman put the score at 12-10 to start the fourth, but Vendetti and Kennedy put the game out of reach taking a 14-10 lead. Heitmiller scored with a second on the clock to end the contest.
Roger Williams (3-4, 0-0 CNE) will take on Kean at the University of Delaware on Wednesday, Mar. 8 at 1:00 pm.
