MILTON, MASS. - The Roger Williams baseball team edged out Curry, securing a 7-6 win on Tuesday afternoon in Milton, MA. The win would snap a two game losing streak that dated back to April 14th.
Louie Mosca (1-0) would go down as the winning pitcher, pitching 2.2 innings in relief, allowing two earned runs while striking out two. Jonathan Quinn came in to secure the final outs and picked up his first save of the season, recording four strikeouts over 2.1 innings. Curry' starter Colman Dyer took the loss after surrendering four earned runs across three innings of work.
Roger Williams struck first with a three-run third inning, led by a two-RBI double from Sam Weigel. In the fourth, Ethan Keeney added a sacrifice fly to push the Hawk lead to 4-0. Curry would answer in the bottom half with a solo homer from Kyle Doolin. In the fifth, Roger Williams expanded their lead to 6-1 via a two-run single by Dennis Folan, however Curry would respond with two runs of their own in the bottom frame, narrowing it to 6-3. After a quiet sixth inning, Curry would strike again in the seventh, plating two more via a two-RBI single from Devin Grove, cutting the deficit to just one run. In the top of the eighth, Ty Cali would knock in a run for the Hawks to bring the lead back to two. Curry would plate one more run to cut the lead back to one, but would ultimately end up coming up short.
Roger Williams would tally nine hits from seven different players. Dennis Folan led the way going 2-for-5, driving in two runs. Sam Weigel doubled and also knocked in a pair, while Owen Hibbard scored twice and stole a base. For the opponent, Curry totaled eight hits, with Tommy Marshall going 2-for-3 with two walks, an RBI, and a stolen base. Devin Grove added three RBIs on two hits, while Kyle Doolin's added a homer, his first of the season.
With the win, Roger Williams improves to 12-16 overall and 5-7 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, while Curry drops to 8-18 overall and 4-9 in CNE play. The Hawks will travel to Salve Regina on Wednesday in a non-conference battle, before traveling to Endicott on Saturday afternoon for a double header.
