NEWPORT, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team dropped their non-conference matchup to #14 Salve Regina on Wednesday afternoon, 17-4, at Reynolds Field.
Salve Regina (22-7, 9-3 NEWMAC) watched Brandon Grover go 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Shane Williams went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, including a double. Hunter Yaworski had five RBIs in the game with two hits, including a home run in the second inning.
Ty Cali led the offense, going 3-for-4, with a pair of RBIs with a double.
Owen Hibbard had a pair of hits, along with
Luke Miele, while
Will Florio hit a home run with a walk.
On the mound, Joe DeRienzo (3-1) picked up the win, pitching 6.0 innings, while giving up five hits, one walk, striking out five, and allowing one run. For the Hawks,
Conor Quinlan (1-4) picked up the loss, giving up four runs in 0.2 innings of work.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Seahawks tallied four runs, with the final two coming off a Tyler Petrosino double to right center field to take a 4-0 lead. Salve Regina added another five runs with a trio of home runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 9-0 lead, while adding three more runs through the fifth, with a run coming in through the fourth, and a pair in the fifth inning.
Roger Williams added a run in the sixth with a home run by Florio, but Salve Regina added five more runs before the Hawks added three runs in the top of the ninth, with Cali bringing in a pair with a double to left center, and Hester drawing a bases-loaded walk.
Roger Williams (12-17, 5-7 CNE) will travel to face #4 Endicott on Saturday, Apr. 26 at 12:00 pm for a doubleheader and is set to host Wheaton on Sunday, Apr. 27 at 12:00 pm. The Hawks will then host Salve Regina for a rematch on Tuesday, Apr. 29 at 3:30 pm.
