BRISTOL, R.I. – After holding a 3-1 lead, the No. 2 Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team fell to No. 3 Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday in the Conference of New England (CNE) Semifinal match at the RWU Tennis Courts.
Colby-Sawyer (15-7, 6-3 CNE) fell in doubles play, with the Hawks' No. 2 doubles pairing of
Camden Poitras and
Will Hurlbut earning a 6-2 win over Peyton Meuse and Aidan Jensen, 6-2.
Bronson DeSisto and
Ryan Carroll then secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles.
Heading into the singles portion of play, with a 1-0 lead, the Hawks then saw DeSisto winning his match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, ahead of
tucker Taylor's 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles over David Dvorak.
Colby-Sawyer then rebounded, with No. 2 singles going in favor of Zsombor Homonnay who tallied a 6-2, 6-3 win ahead of No. 6 singles going 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2) in favor of Jacob Riis over
Iker Rodrigue Alcocer. The Chargers then leveled the match at No. 3 singles with Peyton Meuse edging out Poitras, 7-6 (7-1), 1-6, 6-4.
In the finals singles match, Aidan Jensen earned a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory over
Johnny Baldyga to secure the Chargers spot in the finals.
Roger Williams (17-3, 8-1 CNE) sees their season end after a historic, 17 match winning streak, also securing the most wins over head coach
Barry Gorman. The Hawks also saw the first ITA national ranking in program history.
