Softball: Hawks Take Game One 1-0 Over Curry in a Pitcher's Duel

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams softball team earned a 1-0 victory over Curry College in Conference of New England play in the first game of their Wednesday afternoon double header.

The win came at Paolino Field in Bristol, RI, improving the Hawks to 14-9 on the season and 5-2 in CNE play. It was the pitcher Raegen Germano who led the way for the Hawks, as she went the distance in a complete-game effort. Germano allowed just four hits over seven innings, striking out 11 and walking two in the process. With the win, she moves to 4-4 on the year.

For Curry, Jillian Rogers delivered a strong outing as well, holding Roger Williams scoreless through five innings before the Hawks broke through in the bottom of the sixth. After a two-out walk by shortstop Shannon Starratt, right fielder Lucy Maurao delivered the game's only RBI with a single to right, driving in Starratt from second. Maurao led the way in the hitting department for the Hawks, finishing 2-for-3 with the key hit, while Christina Denovellis also went 1-for-3 in the win as well.

Curry managed four hits on the day, with third baseman Morgan Barmash leading the way, going 2-for-3 including a double in the sixth. Left fielder Mary Rodrigues added a bunt single in the fifth, but was quickly picked off by Hawks catcher Ashley Klingberg. Despite multiple threats, Curry couldn't capitalize, including stranding runners on second and third in the second and sixth innings. Jillian Rogers would take her first loss of the season, allowing five hits and one run over six innings while striking out eight.

With the win, Roger Williams moves to 14-9 on the season (5-2 CNE), while Curry falls to 10-11. The Hawks will battle Curry College once more on Wednesday for Game Two of the double header.
