BEVERLEY, MASS. - At North Field in Beverly, Mass, Roger Williams University shut out Hartford 7–0 in a Conference of New England playoff matchup Saturday afternoon. The win was fueled by sophomore right-hander Jonathan Quinn, who improved to 4–2 on the season.
Quinn went the distance in the win, while allowing just four hits and two walks. He struck out nine Hartford batters and needed 126 pitches to complete the outing, earning the shutout.
On the losing end, Jeffrey Blake (0–4) took the loss for Hartford, surrendering five runs (all earned) over 7.1 innings despite striking out eight. Relievers Evan Gentile and Luke Rier allowed two more runs.
Roger Williams opened the scoring in the first inning when Noah Hester tripled and scored on a single from Jack Tubman. The Hawks momentum came in the fourth inning when Nick Sheehan blasted a two-run homer, followed immediately by a solo shot from Dennis Folan, extending the lead to 4–0.
After a few innings, Roger Williams added insurance in the eighth. Hester doubled and later scored on a sac bunt by Tubman, pushing the lead to 5–0. They put the game out of reach in the ninth when Will Florio singled and scored alongside Braedan Ventura on Hester's clutch two-RBI single.
Offensively, Hester was the standout performer, going 3-for-5 with a triple, double, and two RBI. Sheehan (2-run HR) and Folan (solo HR) also contributed key extra-base hits, while Jack Tubman notched two RBI including a sac bunt. Ty Cali added a double and stolen base.
Hartford's offense struggled to find rhythm, managing only four hits and going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. J. Ciccoene was the only Hartford player to reach base twice.
Roger Williams will take on Nichols for a chance to advance to the Conference of New England finals vs Endicott.
