BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team was unable to overcome the stout defense of WPI on Friday evening in a slightly delayed start to the 2025 campaign, 2-0, in non-conference action.

The Hawks out shot the Engineers 16-8, 12-5 in shots on goal, while WPI's Myles Lakin made 12 saves in the contest. Hannah Brazil and the RWU defense faced five total shots on cage, with Brazil making a pair of saves, and Elizabeth Duquette earning a defensive save.

As a team, the Hawks tallied 20 penalty corners, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter, while adding seven in the second frame. The Engineers only were able to compile four penalty corner opportunities in the win.

Individually, WPI's offense ran through Lauren Meinhold with a goal and an assist, while Emma Barton tallied a goal for the Engineers in the win. The Hawks' offense targeted Chelsea King who had six shots all on target, while Maddy Monahan and Elizabeth Duquette had two shots on goal each.

After a scoreless first quarter the Engineers broke through in the second, Meinhold reverse chipped a ball across the circle as Powers redirected to the backside of the goal hitting off the far side post, giving Barton a tap-in goal at 25:33.

After three consecutive penalty corners for the Engineers, Barton connected with Meinhold who pulled to her left and ripped a ball into the circle as a defender deflected the ball past the Roger Williams goalkeeper to extend the lead to two halfway through the third quarter.
