Field Hockey: Hawks Break Program Record for Total Points in a Game Fall, Tie Single-Game Goal Record in CNE Win Over Nichols

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team dominated from start to finish Saturday afternoon at Bayside Field, as they earned their third straight win with a 10-1 victory over Conference of New England (CNE) foe Nichols.

The Hawks broke the team record for points in a game with a total of 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points, with the previous record being set last season against Lasell. The game was a similar 10-1 win for the Hawks, with only three goals being assisted. The Hawks also tied the program record for goals in a game with 10.

The Hawks offense ran through Chelsea King (Albany, N.Y.) who tallied a pair of goals and two assists, with Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.) adding a pair of goals, including one off a penalty stroke. Lilly Tobin (Sandwich, Mass.) also chipped in a pair in the match.

The Hawks opened the scoring in the ninth minute, as Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.) found King down low for the goal. Timbrouck then added a goal with 1:37 remaining in the opening frame. After a penalty corner was awarded as time expired, King fired the corner to the top of the arc for Anna Kruggel (Scituate, Mass.), who then dished over to Monahan to put RWU up 3-0 after the opening 15:00.

Roger Williams picked up where they left off as King found Duquette for the goal 2:45 into the match, ahead of Tobin scoring her first after King found a path on her pass. Tobin scored shortly after for her second of the match, scoring less than four minutes apart in the second quarter.

Coming out of the half, Brodie Loveland (West Milford, N.J.) tallied a goal of the Hawks in the opening 1:34 of play, with Katie Flanagan (Madison, Conn.) earning her first collegiate point with the assist. The Bison would get on the board, as Emma Bianculli tallied the lone goal for Nichols.

The final frame saw King, Duquette, and Eva Wood (Sandwich, Mass.) score for the Hawks, with Wood scoring the first collegiate goal of her career.

Roger Williams (4-2, 1-0 CNE) will play five straight road contests, beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 pm at Wesleyan.  The Hawks will then travel to Biddeford to face the University of New England in a rematch of the CNE Championship Game on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 1:00 pm.

For Nichols (1-4, 0-1 CNE), the Bison will host Eastern Connecticut State on Tuesday, Sept. 16, on Vendetti Field. They will then travel to Mount Holyoke on Thursday, Sept. 18, ahead of a Saturday, Sept. 20, matchup against CNE foe Johnson & Wales.
