Box Score NEWTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team was unable to take a set in their non-conference match against the Lasers of Lasell University at the Lasell Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Lasers tallied 53 points while hitting .188 as a team, with 40 kills and 21 errors in 101 attempts. The Hawks were able to hit .115, while tallying 27 kills with 16 errors and 96 attempts. The Hawks' defense was able to earn eight blocks, while having 35 digs in the match. Lasell led in service aces with eight in the match.
Trinity Silva tallied 12 kills with 30 attempts and five errors, hitting .233. Andrea Aceituno had 11 kills and seven errors with 27 attempts, with 11 digs for a double-double in the match. Sydney Katz posted 32 assists with four block assists to lead the team.
Peyton Felix (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) led the team with nine kills while hitting .250, with Lily Winsten (Rockledge, Fla.) hitting .400 with eight attempts and four kills without an error, while recording an assist, service ace, a solo block, block assist, and a dig in the match. Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) had nine digs, with Emma Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) adding another eight digs and 12 assists.
RWU led in the opening set 9-8, but Lasell scored seven of the next nine points, earning a 15-11 advantage. The Hawks cut the deficit down to two, 19-17, but the Lasers rattled off four straight points to take a 23-17 advantage as they eventually won the set.
In the second set, the Lasers held a 23-18 lead, but the Hawks rattled off three straight points to pull within two, before Lasell clinched the set. In the final set, Roger Williams held an 18-6 lead, but the Lasers again used a run, scoring five straight, to take a 21-18 advantage. With Lasell leading 22-19, the Hawks rattled off three straight to tie it, before the Lasers clinched the set with a 25-22 win.
Roger Williams (3-6, 0-0 CNE) will face Coast Guard on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 6:00 pm in New London, Conn. The Hawks will then host Wellesley to round out the week on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 1:00 pm, ahead of their Wednesday, Sept. 24 Conference of New England Opener at Curry.
Lasell (7-0, 0-0 GNAC) will take on Wentworth on Wednesday, Sept. 17, before facing Babson on Friday, Sept. 19, with both being home matches. The Lasers will then face Simmons on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 7:00 pm in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener.
