BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team opened Conference of New England (CNE) play on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Curry 7-0.
The Hawks move to 31-1-1 in the all time series, while winning the last 29 meetings between the two programs.
In doubles play, the No. 3 doubles pairing of Ashlyn Keating (Ludlow, Mass.) and Gabrielle Petroniro (Wolcott, Conn.) earned a 6-0 win, ahead of Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) and Claire Dwyer (Manchester, Maine) who earned a win at No. 1 doubles by a similar score. The Hawks completed the sweep with Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Annette Carter (Bedford, N.H.) earning a 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles.
The Hawks continued with the momentum in singles play, with Megan Bache (Westbrook, Conn.) earning a 6-0, 6-0 victory, followed by Meghan Hughes (Watertown, Conn.) at No. 6 singles. Adrianna Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) earned a win by a similar score, as did Dwyer at No. 4 singles. Carter earned the win at No. 5 singles before Ella Mancini concluded her match at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Roger Williams (5-0, 1-0 CNE) will travel to New Hampshire on Saturday, Sept. 20 as they face CNE foe Colby-Sawyer. The Hawks will then face Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at home.
