PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team played Johnson and Wales (JWU) to a 0-0 draw this afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) play.
The Hawks out shot the Wildcats 10-7 in the contest, with two of the Hawks' shots finding the net to JWU's one. Roger Williams had seven corner kicks in the match, while JWU had three. For the Hawks,
Eliot Panaccione (Pepperell, Mass.) had one save in the match, while Alexander Nardillo had two for the Wildcats.
The match was a battle, with the Hawks tallying 12 fouls and the Wildcats racking up nine, with one yellow card issued to Roger Williams'
Murphy Malone (Cheshire, Conn.) in the 52nd minute. Both teams also made frequent substitutions in an effort to keep legs fresh and gain an edge.
Dylan Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) fired a shot within the first minute of the match. Despite this, neither side managed to find the back of the net despite a flurry of shots and opportunities.
Roger Williams applied more consistent pressure in the second half, forcing Nardolillo into two key saves on shots by
Tyler Jastrab (Townsend, Mass.) and
Aidan Jennings (San Diego, Calif.) in the 77th minute. Jastrab tallied three shots, with one on goal.
Roger Williams (4-0-2, 1-0-1 CNE) will play Salve Regina in Newport at 2:00 pm before returning home to play conference foe University of New England on Saturday, Sept. 27. Johnson and Wales (2-2-3, 1-0-1 CNE) are on the road this upcoming week, heading to Anna Maria on Tuesday, Sept. 23 and Gordon on Saturday, Sept. 27 for a CNE match.
