PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Playing their first contest away from Bayside Field on Saturday morning, the Roger Williams University Field Hockey team earned a 7-1 victory at Panther field over Plymouth State in non-conference action.
The Hawks out shot the Panthers, 44-5 with 27 of their attempts landing on target. The Hawks also earned 20 penalty corners to the Panthers two on their way to the win. Hannah Brazil (Sandwich, Mass.) picked up the win after starting the first half of action, with one save. Meili Raspante (Cotuit, Mass.) made a pair of saves in the final 15 minutes of game time in relief.
For Plymouth Sate, Natalie Merrick made 17 saves in the matchup.
After a scoreless first quarter of play, the Hawks were the first to strike, after King put the ball in on a penalty corner in the 21st minute of play, Lily Tobin (Sandwich, Mass.) was able to find the back of the net for her second goal of the day. Just over four minutes later, the Hawks took advantage on another penalty corner opportunity. The insert from Chelsea King (Albany, N.Y.) found Anna Kruggel's (Scituate, Mass.) stick, as they connected with the back of the cage again.
With 3:34 remaining in the opening half the Hawks an initial shot by Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.) was saved by Natalie Merrick, the Hawks then were able to score with Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, N.Y.) redirecting a second shot into the net. Just over a minute Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) was able to find the cage, taking a 4-0 lead into the halftime break.
Roger Williams picked up where they left off in the third quarter, as King drew a penalty stroke, pushing it past the Panther goalkeeper, 1:36 into the quarter. In the fourth, Tobin struck again with a goal coming 2:48 into the final frame. The Hawks saw Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.) also convert a penalty stroke to put the Hawks up by seven with just under 10 minutes remaining.
Plymouth State saw Georgia Coleman tally the lone goal of the match off an assist by Claire Toleman.
Roger Williams (2-2, 0-0 CNE) will take host Simmons on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 4:00 pm on Bayside Field, ahead of hosting Nichols on Saturday, Sept. 13. Plymouth State (0-2, 0-0 LEC) will turn their attention to a Wednesday, Sept. 10 tilt with Colby-Sawyer ahead of a road contest on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Framingham State.
