Women’s Volleyball: Roger Williams Splits Final Matches of RWU Invitational, Hernandez Records 1,000th Career Dig

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team wrapped up the RWU Invitational on Saturday with a mix of highs and lows, falling to Wesleyan University before storming back to defeat Wheaton College in a five-set battle.

In their first match, the Hawks fell 25-15, 25-18, 25-20 to Wesleyan despite a strong all-around effort. Peyton Felix (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) posted seven kills and nine digs, while Izzy Unsworth (Milford, N.H.) added eight kills and an ace. Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) contributed six kills and six digs, and setter Emma Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) tallied 12 assists and six digs. Libero Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) anchored the defense with 10 digs, helping Roger Williams stay competitive.

The Hawks rebounded with a 3-2 victory over Wheaton, winning 14-25, 25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 15-13. Jackson recorded a standout double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs, while Kaydence Fish (Bedford, N.H.) added eight kills and two blocks. Felix chipped in four kills and six blocks, and Bosco guided the offense with 18 assists and 14 digs. Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) contributed seven kills and two blocks, helping the Hawks control the net.

Hernandez led the back row with a match-high 25 digs, and her sixth dig in the first set marked the 1,000th of her collegiate career, placing her 10th all-time, with 1,019.

Roger Williams' defensive effort proved crucial, with the Hawks registering 13 team blocks and hitting .324 in the fourth set as they fell to Wheaton, before hitting .318 in the fifth.

Roger Williams (2-5) will travel to Salve Regina on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 6:00 pm.  The Hawks will then face Lasell and Coast Guard on Saturday, Sept. 13 and Thursday, Sept. 18 on the road.
