Women's Soccer: Hawks Rolls Past Curry, 5-0, to Close Regular Season

Hawks score five goals, earn a shutout, and turn their attention to the CNE postseason.

BRISTOL, R.I. — Roger Williams University women's soccer closed out its regular season in convincing fashion Tuesday afternoon, earning a 5-0 victory over Curry College at Bayside Field.

The Hawks controlled the match from start to finish, finishing with 38 shots, including 20 on goal, while limiting Curry to just one shot. Roger Williams scored twice in the first half before adding three more goals after the break to secure the shutout and build momentum heading into the Conference of New England (CNE) postseason.

HAWKS TAKE CONTROL IN FIRST HALF

After generating several early scoring opportunities, Roger Williams broke through in the 25th minute. Sophomore midfielder Camryn Dickinson (Quaker Hill, Conn.) found the back of the net off an assist from senior midfielder Beth Yucius (Duxbury, Mass.) to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Dickinson struck again in the 29th minute, this time finishing a pass from junior midfielder Bella Vena (Haverhill, Mass.) to double the advantage. The Hawks continued to apply pressure throughout the remainder of the half, taking a 2-0 lead into the break.

THREE SECOND-HALF GOALS SEAL THE WIN

Roger Williams carried its momentum into the second half, adding three goals in a span of less than two minutes.

Senior forward Mya D'Antonio (Marshfield, Mass.) made it 3-0 in the 51st minute, converting a pass from Yucius. The Hawks added another goal in the 52nd minute before Yucius capped the scoring moments later, finishing an assist from first-year midfielder Madelyn Riebold (Deep River, Conn.) to extend the lead to 5-0.

Dickinson finished with two goals, while Yucius recorded a goal and two assists. D'Antonio added a goal, and Vena contributed an assist as the Hawks' attack continued to create opportunities throughout the contest.

DEFENSIVE EFFORT SECURES SHUTOUT

The Hawks' offensive production was matched by a strong defensive performance. Roger Williams limited Curry to one shot for the entire match and did not allow a shot on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Lizzy Thompson (Holland, Mass.) played all 90 minutes in goal as the Hawks recorded the shutout. Roger Williams also held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks, further reflecting its control of the match.

With the victory, Roger Williams finished its regular-season schedule with an 8-2-6 overall record and a 6-2-1 mark in CNE play, according to the official box score.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Roger Williams turns its attention to the Conference of New England postseason, hosting Endicott College in the first round on Saturday, October 31, at 3 p.m. at Bayside Field. The Hawks will look to carry their strong finish into the conference tournament as they begin their postseason run.
