BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday evening, falling to Gordon College, 1-0, at Bayside Field. The Hawks move to 4-1-6 overall and 2-1-1 in Conference of New England play.
Gordon Strikes Early
Gordon opened the scoring just 4:43 into the match when Lily Harper found the back of the net off an assist from Eowyn Lapp, giving the Fighting Scots an early 1-0 advantage.
The Hawks responded with pressure of their own, as senior Mya D'Antonio (Marshfield, Mass.) recorded four shots on the night, including four on target. Gordon goalkeeper Ivy Daniel turned away D'Antonio's attempts to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard.
Hawks Battle for Equalizer
Roger Williams continued to push for the equalizer throughout the opening half. Sophomore Logan DiFatta (Simsbury, Conn.) registered two shots, including one on goal, while first-year Madelyn Riebold (Deep River, Conn.) added two shots with one on target.
The Hawks finished the first half with four shots and earned one corner kick, while Gordon held its 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Hawks Generate Pressure in Second Half
RWU continued to create opportunities after the break, with D'Antonio adding two more shots and Riebold recording another attempt. Senior Beth Yucius (Duxbury, Mass.) also recorded two shots, including one on target, as the Hawks looked to level the match.
Senior Sarah Fogarty (Scituate, Mass.) added a late opportunity in the 83rd minute, but her shot went wide as Gordon maintained its one-goal advantage.
Thompson Makes Stop in Goal
Junior Lizzy Thompson (Holland, Mass.) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Hawks, making one save on the evening. Gordon finished with four total shots, while RWU held an 11-4 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in shots on goal.

The Hawks hit the road Saturday, Oct. 10, when they travel to West Hartford, Conn., for a Conference of New England matchup against Hartford.
