BOSTON, Mass. — The Roger Williams University women's soccer team saw its 2026 season come to an end on Tuesday evening, falling 2-1 to Suffolk University in the Conference of New England (CNE) Tournament Semifinals at East Boston Memorial Park.
The Hawks finish the season with a 10-3-6 overall record and a 7-2-1 mark in conference play after advancing to the semifinal round of the CNE Tournament. Despite the heartbreaking result, Roger Williams took another step forward this season, building on last year's campaign that ended in the first round of the conference playoffs.
Fogarty Gets Hawks on the Board
Suffolk opened the scoring at 13:54 of the first half, converting a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead. Roger Williams responded with pressure in the attacking third and found the equalizer just before the midway point of the half.
At 25:56, senior captain Sarah Fogarty (Scituate, Mass.) found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore forward Leah Costa (Woodstock, Conn.), bringing the Hawks even at 1-1.
The momentum shifted back toward Suffolk late in the opening half, as Makena Columbus scored at 41:31 off an assist from Isa Peraza to give the hosts a 2-1 advantage heading into halftime.
Hawks Battle Until the Final Whistle
Roger Williams continued to push for an equalizer throughout the second half, creating several opportunities in the attacking end. The Hawks recorded eight shots after halftime and earned five second-half corner kicks, but were unable to find the back of the net.
Senior goalkeeper Lizzy Thompson (Holland, Mass.) played all 90 minutes in goal, recording one save. The Hawks finished with 13 shots, including nine on goal, while Suffolk registered eight shots and three on target. Suffolk goalkeeper Jaiden Wilds made eight saves to preserve the one-goal advantage.
Despite the result, the Hawks' postseason run represents continued progress for the program, advancing to the CNE semifinals after seeing their season end in the first round a year ago.
What's Next?
The Hawks conclude their 2026 season with a 10-3-6 overall record and will now turn their attention toward preparation for the 2027 campaign. Roger Williams will look to build on this season's growth and return to the pitch next fall.
