PAWTUCKET, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Ice Hockey team fell to Johnson & Wales, 4-3, on Saturday evening at Lynch Arena in Conference of New England (CNE) action.
The Hawks outshot the Wildcats 33-31, but were unable to overcome the 25-20 faceoff battle.
The Wildcats were the first to strike as Chris Alexander was able to take advantage of a power play opportunity, with Joseph Sciabarra and Cullen Hennessey tallying assists. Just 28 seconds into the second period, Alexander struck again with helpers from Sciabarra and Zachary Brady. The Hawks answered a few minutes late as Bo Clark (Granger, Ind.) put one past the netminder and cut the deficit to one.
5:50 into the third period, Hennessey tallied a goal to expand the lead back out to two, but Colin Kwak (Alpharetta, Ga.) answered with a goal with 1:56 remaining in regulation, his first of the season, to give the Hawks a chance in the closing minutes. The Wildcats were able to seal it just under 40 seconds later with Jack Gerne tallying a goal on the empty net opportunity, before Cooper St. Hilaire (Lewiston, Maine) tallied a goal with 17 seconds remaining.
Jacob Jaslow (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) made 27 saves in the game, while Ryan Drust (Middletown, Conn.) and Daxton St. Hilaire (Lewiston, Maine) each having three blocks.
Roger Williams (6-16-1, 4-13-1 CNE) will host Nichols on Friday, Feb. 20 in their final home game of the season at 5:00, before closing out the regular season at Wentworth on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 4:00 pm, with playoff hopes on the line in both matchups.
