Men’s Basketball: Roger Williams Powers Past JWU, 86–64

BRISTOL, R.I. — Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team used a balanced offensive attack and dominant second-half shooting to defeat Johnson & Wales, 86–64, on Tuesday night at the Campus Recreation Center. The Hawks improved to 12–11 overall and 8–6 in Conference of New England (CNE) play, while the Wildcats fell to 3–21 (2–13 CNE).

Roger Williams seized control early, shooting 48.6 percent from the field in the first half to build a 42–25 advantage at the break. The Hawks maintained their efficiency after halftime, connecting on 45.7 percent of their shots and 44.4 percent from three-point range in the second half to secure the 22-point victory.

RWU finished the contest shooting 47.1 percent from the floor and 38.2 percent from beyond the arc, while converting all seven of its free-throw attempts. The Hawks also dominated the glass, outrebounding the Wildcats 44–34, including a 12–10 edge on the offensive boards that translated into 16 second-chance points.

Owen Boudria (Westport, Mass.) led the way for Roger Williams with a season-high 23 points on an efficient 8-of-12 shooting performance, including a perfect 2-of-2 from three-point range and 5-of-5 at the free-throw line. Finn Miller (Stamford, Conn.) added 20 points and eight rebounds, shooting 8-of-14 from the field, while also recording two steals.

Ty Higgins (New Marlborough, Mass.) provided a spark off the bench with 12 points, knocking down 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Ryan Hammarlund (Southington, Conn.) contributed 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for a double-double effort, while Philip Sughrue (Winchester, Mass.) facilitated the offense with seven assists and picked up six rebounds.

The Hawks showcased depth throughout the game, with the bench contributing 43 points and the team producing 25 fast-break points. Roger Williams also held a 38–22 advantage in points in the paint and forced 13 turnovers, converting them into 16 points.

JWU was led by Azariah Harrison, who scored a game-high 27 points on 11-of-25 shooting. Silas Sawtelle added nine points, while Colin Rice and Dylan Hooter each finished with eight. The Wildcats shot 37.3 percent from the field and 25.0 percent from three-point range.

The Hawks will look to carry the momentum forward as they conclude the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 21 on the road at Endicott. JWU will close their regular season at home against WNE on Saturday, Feb. 21.
