BEVERLY, Mass. — The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team battled through 45 minutes of action before falling to Endicott, 78–74, in overtime on Saturday afternoon at MacDonald Gymnasium.
The Hawks opened the game with energy, building an early 18–12 lead after the first quarter and extending their advantage to 33–29 at halftime. RWU capitalized on defensive pressure and transition opportunities, forcing turnovers and converting at the free-throw line to control the pace through the opening 20 minutes.
Endicott responded in the third quarter, shooting over 70 percent from the field in the frame to outscore the Hawks 22–7 and seize momentum. Roger Williams answered in the fourth, erupting for 23 points behind timely three-point shooting and aggressive drives to the basket. A late layup by
Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) tied the game at 63–63 with 19 seconds remaining, sending the contest into overtime.
In the extra period, both teams traded baskets before Endicott connected on a key three-pointer and converted at the free-throw line down the stretch to secure the four-point win.
Chloe Richardson (Norwell, Mass.) led the Hawks with 22 points, including a pair of three-pointers and a perfect 6-of-6 performance from the line.
Chelsea Graiver (North Yarmouth, Maine) added 16 points and two assists, while Coppola contributed nine points and four rebounds.
Meg Qualey (Woburn, Mass.) and
Lilli Clark (Willimantic, Conn.) combined for 15 rebounds, helping RWU finish with a 44–32 advantage on the glass.
Roger Williams shot 95.2 percent (20-of-21) from the free-throw line and recorded 17 points off turnovers, but Endicott's 51.8 percent shooting overall and 42 points in the paint proved decisive in the overtime setback.
With the regular season complete, Roger Williams finishes sixth in the Conference of New England standings and will travel to face third-seeded Western New England on Tuesday, Feb. 24th, at 6:00 PM, in the opening round of the conference tournament.
