Women’s Lacrosse: Bowdoin Shuts Down Hawks in Sunday Matinee

BOWDOIN, Maine – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team fell to Bowdoin on Sunday afternoon, 17-1, at Ryan Field, falling in non-conference action.

Bowdoin controlled the pace of play, taking 41 total shots, putting 30 on target to Roger Williams eight shots, all of which landed on target. Bowdoin had went 11-of-12 successful clears with the Hawks completing 11-of-18 attempts. Bowdoin took the draw control battle, 14-5, and ground ball battle, 20-13.

Mya Imaeda had six points for the Polar Bears with three goals and three assists, while Grace Schorr had two goals and a pair of assists, and Tate Ryan also had four points with three goals and an assist.

For the Hawks, Miranda Hayes (South Burlington, Vt.) had two draw controls, while Allie Shamberger (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Cali Wilson (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) each had two ground balls and a caused turnover. Jamie Anthony (Somers, Conn.) led the team with five ground balls.

Bowdoin took a 7-0 lead after the first quarter, scoring on a player down opportunity, ahead of striking again while down, with Ryan also scoring while shorthanded. The Polar Bears were able to double up taking a 14-0 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Polar Bears struck twice in the third quarter, before Lauren Canata (West Springfield, Mass.) connected with the back of the net with 9:55 remaining in the fourth quarter, before Schorr added a tally for the Polar Bears to close out scoring.

Roger Williams (0-2, 0-0 CNE) will host their first home game of the season on Saturday, Mar. 7 at 1:00 pm when they host Skidmore. The Hawks will then be on the road on Thursday, Mar. 12 at 6:00 pm at MIT, before hosting Vassar on Saturday, Mar. 14.
