CLERMONT, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Softball team was held scoreless on Wednesday morning, falling 4-0 to Calvin at Hancock Park during Spring Break action.
The game remained scoreless through the first two innings before Calvin broke through in the top of the third. Carly Dole launched a two-run home run to center field, scoring Bella Duimstra and giving the Knights a 2-0 lead.
Calvin extended the advantage in the fourth inning. Kendall Jordan scored on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Mya Brickey, and Analy Guth followed with an RBI groundout that brought home Emily Sweetland to make it 4-0.
Roger Williams recorded six hits in the contest but was unable to push a run across. Lucy Maurao (Holliston, Mass.) led the Hawks at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, while Hailey Williams (Vernon, Conn.), Shannon Starratt (Lake George, N.Y.), Adrianna Amaral (Taunton, Mass.), and McKenzie Foley (Hanover, Mass.) each added a hit.
Raegen Germano (Old Tappan, N.J.) took the loss for the Hawks, allowing four runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts over four innings of work. Sophia Bruno (Sandwich, Mass.) provided strong relief, pitching three scoreless innings while allowing three hits and striking out two.
Brooke Hunderman earned the win for Calvin, tossing a complete-game shutout. She allowed six hits and struck out 10 without issuing a walk.
Calvin improves to 4-3 on the season, while the Hawks move to 3-3 overall. The Hawks will be back in action against Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday at Hancock Park.
