BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Softball team delivered a dominant all-around performance on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Coast Guard, 4–0, at Paolino Field.
The Hawks were fueled by a strong outing in the circle from Raegen Germano (Old Tappan, N.J.), who tossed 5.2 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out five. Keira Quadros (East Providence, R.I.) closed out the final 1.1 innings, combining with Germano to hold Coast Guard to just one hit in the game.
Roger Williams broke through in the third inning, scoring three runs on four hits and taking advantage of Coast Guard defensive miscues. Shannon Starratt (Lake George, N.Y.) delivered the big hit of the inning, driving in two runs, while Madison Moran (Attleboro, Mass.) added an RBI single to extend the lead to 3–0.
The Hawks added an insurance run in the sixth inning as Starratt came through again with an RBI single, helping plate Grace Forsythe (Woburn, Mass.) to make it 4–0. Starratt finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the offense, while Forsythe added two hits and a run scored.
Roger Williams totaled nine hits on the afternoon, with contributions from Hailey Williams (Vernon, Conn.), Lucy Maurao (Holliston, Mass.), Moran, and Nicolette Fraser (Swampscott, Mass.). The Hawks also capitalized on Coast Guard errors, which proved critical in extending innings and creating scoring opportunities.
With the win, Roger Williams improves to 7–5 on the season, while Coast Guard falls to 6–3.
