BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Softball team completed the doubleheader sweep of Coast Guard with a dramatic 2–1 walk-off victory on Wednesday evening at Paolino Field.
The Hawks found themselves trailing early after Coast Guard plated an unearned run in the fourth inning, but Roger Williams remained composed behind a strong pitching effort.
Natalie Lundari (Flemington, N.J.) opened in the circle, allowing just two hits over five innings while surrendering one unearned run.
Luci Walters (DeLand, Fla.) followed with 1.1 scoreless innings, and
Keira Quadros (East Providence, R.I.) earned the win after closing out the seventh.
Roger Williams tied the game in the fifth inning as
Andie Moreira (Concord, N.H.) came around to score on an RBI single from
Hailey Williams (Vernon, Conn.), capitalizing on a Coast Guard error to even the score at 1–1.
The Hawks completed the comeback in the bottom of the seventh. After
Skye Merrow (Hudson, N.H.) singled to start the inning and
Kayleigh O'Connor (Southington, Conn.) entered as a pinch runner,
Calysa Moody (West Springfield, Mass.) followed with a single to put two runners on. A passed ball advanced both runners into scoring position before Williams delivered the game-winning RBI single to right field, scoring O'Connor and sealing the 2–1 victory.
Williams led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance and both RBIs, while Moody and Merrow each added two hits.
McKenzie Foley (Hanover, Mass.) also contributed a pair of hits as Roger Williams totaled 11 hits in the game.
With the win, Roger Williams improves to 8–5 on the season and completes the sweep over Coast Guard.
