BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team picked up a Conference of New England win, 12–3 , over Nichols College on Tuesday afternoon at Bayside Field.
The Hawks established control early, scoring three first-quarter goals and erupting for six more in the second quarter to take a commanding 9–0 lead at halftime. Roger Williams continued its offensive push throughout the game while holding Nichols in check defensively.
Jamie Anthony (Somers, Conn.) led the Hawks with a dominant performance, tallying five goals while also contributing five ground balls.
Lauren Canata (West Springfield, Mass.) added two goals, while
Miranda Hayes (South Burlington, Vt.) finished with two goals and two assists. Additional scoring came from
Allie Shamberger (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.),
Meaghan Holmes (Pembroke, Mass.), and
Mollee Merritt (Cheshire, Conn.) as the Hawks spread the offense across the lineup.
Roger Williams controlled possession throughout the contest, outshooting Nichols 37–15 and holding advantages in ground balls (27–16) and draw controls (13–4). The Hawks also went a perfect 20-for-20 on clear attempts, helping maintain offensive pressure throughout the game.
Goalkeeper
Aizza Chase (Cohasset, Mass.) played the full 60 minutes in net for Roger Williams, recording seven saves while allowing just three goals in the win.
With the victory, Roger Williams improves to 4–1 in conference play and 4–6 overall on the season.
