ORLANDO, Fla. — The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team fell in a tightly contested 4–3 match to Hamline University on Monday morning at Lake Cane.
The Hawks opened the match with a win at No. 1 doubles, as
Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) and
Megan Bache (Westbrook, Conn.) earned a 6–2 victory. Hamline responded by taking the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches to secure the doubles point and a 1–0 lead heading into singles play.
Roger Williams picked up three singles victories to keep the match competitive. Abarca rallied to win a three-set battle at No. 1 singles, defeating Hamline 0–6, 7–5, 10–7.
Izzy Pecora Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) added a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, 7–5, 7–5, while
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) earned a 6–2, 6–4 win at No. 3 singles.
Hamline secured the match with wins at the remaining positions, including a pair of tightly contested three-set matches at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Despite the Hawks' efforts, the Pipers claimed the decisive fourth point to take the 4–3 victory.
With the result, Roger Williams moves to 14–4 on the season while Hamline improves to 5–3.
