Women’s Lacrosse: Roger Williams University Controls Play on Senior Day

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team used a fast start on its way to a 20-3 Conference of New England (CNE) victory over Wentworth on Bayside Field Saturday on Senior Day.
 
The Hawks controlled the pace of play from the onset, taking 38 total shots, with 27 landing on frame, while five of the Leopards' nine shots in the contest found the target. The Hawks held a 26-14 edge in ground balls, while winning 19 of 23 draw controls. The Hawks also converted on three of their five free position attempts.
 
Allie Shamberger (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) led the charge offensively, scoring four goals and dishing out another four assists, while grabbing a ground ball. Miranda Hayes (South Burlington, Vt.) stuffed the stat sheet, recording four goals and two assists, with three ground balls, a caused turnover, and 17 draw controls. Jamie Anthony (Somers, Conn.) and Lauren Canata (West Springfield, Mass.) each had four points.
 
Seniors Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) and Soleil Dubois (Nashua, N.H.) each had two caused turnovers. While Aizza Chase (Cohasset, Mass.) made a pair of saves on the four shots that she faced.
 
After scoring 52 seconds into the contest, with Shamberger finding Canata, Wentworth answered with a goal by Grace Del Pilar with 12:32 remaining in the opening stanza. The Hawks then went on a 13-0 run that spanned from the 11:46 mark in the first quarter, to the 7:34 mark in the second, when Maggie McCann tallied the second goal of the game for Wentworth.
 
After taking a 14-2 lead into the halftime break, the Hawks saw four goals in the third, including the second career goal by Rocheleau. The Hawks went into the fourth outscoring the Leopards 2-1 in the final frame, capped by the first career goal by Dubois.
 
Roger Williams (7-6, 6-1 CNE) will travel to face Hartford on Tuesday, Apr. 14, at 4:00 pm. The Hawks will then visit Biddeford on Saturday, Apr. 18, for a 3:00 pm tilt with the University of New England.
