MILTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Softball team earned a 7-1 victory over Curry in Conference of New England (CNE) action on Tuesday afternoon.
In the circle for the Hawks, Keira Quadros (East Providence, R.I.) improved to 7-2 on the season, tossing 5.0 innings while allowing just one unearned run on three hits with three strikeouts. Sophia Bruno (Sandwich, Mass.) provided 2.0 innings of scoreless relief to secure the win.
For Curry, Kassidy Lobb took the loss, allowing six runs on 10 hits over 2.1 innings.
Roger Williams got off to a fast start, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Lucy Maurao (Holliston, Mass.) and Hailey Williams (Vernon, Conn.) both crossed the plate on a two-RBI single by Shannon Starratt (Lake George, N.Y.).
The Hawks added another run in the second inning as Alexia Tsonis (New Bedford, Mass.) scored on an RBI single by Starratt, extending the lead to 3-0.
Roger Williams broke the game open in the third inning with three more runs. Madison Tucholski (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Kayleigh O'Connor (Southington, Conn.) scored on a two-RBI single from Quadros, who later came around to score on a wild pitch to make it 6-0.
Curry got on the board in the fifth inning as Adrianna Capozzi scored on an RBI double by Isabella Monsanto, cutting the deficit to 6-1.
The Hawks answered in the sixth inning, as Maurao launched a solo home run to center field to cap the scoring at 7-1.
Roger Williams totaled 12 hits in the contest. Starratt led the way with two hits and three RBIs, while Maurao recorded two hits including a home run and scored twice. Tucholski and Williams each added two hits for the Hawks, while Quadros recorded a hit and two RBI.
Curry finished with five hits in the game. Monsanto led the way with two hits and an RBI.
Roger Williams (16-7, 8-2 CNE) will look to carry the momentum as they head to Wheaton for a single non-conference game on Wednesday, Apr. 15 before heading to WNE for a CNE doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 18.
