Softball: Hawks Shut Out by Wheaton, 6-0

NORTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Softball team fell to Wheaton 6-0 in nonconference on Wednesday afternoon.

In the circle for the Hawks, Luci Walters (DeLand, Fla.) took the loss, pitching 2.2 innings while allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits. Sophia Bruno (Sandwich, Mass.) provided 3.1 innings of relief, giving up two runs on four hits.

For Wheaton, Peyton Blankenheim-Brown earned the win, combining with two relievers to hold the Hawks scoreless while allowing six hits.

Wheaton got on the board in the bottom of the first inning as Blankenheim-Brown launched a solo home run to give the Lyons a 1-0 lead.

The Lyons extended their advantage in the third inning. Blankenheim-Brown struck again with a two-run home run, and later in the frame, another run came home on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.

The Hawks threatened in the fourth and fifth innings, as they loaded the bases both times. Ultimately, RWU could not convert and Wheaton got themselves out of each jam.

Wheaton added two more runs in the sixth inning. Julia Miller scored on an RBI double by Madi Miller, before Lexi Falcioni followed with an RBI double of her own to extend the lead to 6-0.

Roger Williams was limited offensively, recording six hits in the contest. Hailey Williams (Vernon, Conn.) led the Hawks with two hits, while four different Hawks each added a hit.

Wheaton totaled 10 hits in the game. Blankenheim-Brown led the way with two home runs and three RBIs, while Gabby Reinbold recorded two hits. Madi Miller and Falcioni each contributed RBI doubles.

Roger Williams (16-8, 8-2 CNE) will be back in action on Saturday, Apr. 18 as they head to WNE, before hosting Endicott on Sunday, Apr. 19.
