Men’s Tennis: Hawks Advance to CNE Final with Win Over Colby-Sawyer

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team advanced to the Conference of New England (CNE) Championship match with a 4–0 victory over Colby-Sawyer in the semifinal round on Tuesday afternoon.

In postseason play, matches are decided by the first team to four points, and the Hawks wasted no time taking control.

Roger Williams earned the opening point in doubles competition, highlighted by a strong 6–1 win from Bronson DeSisto (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Ryan Carroll (Holden, Mass.) at No. 1 doubles, along with a 6–1 victory from Tucker Taylor (Gonzales, Texas) and Iker Rodriguez Alcocer (Nuacalpan de Juarez, Mexico) at the No. 3 spot.

Leading 1–0 entering singles, the Hawks quickly added to their advantage. Will Hurlbut (Marion, Mass.) got Roger Williams on the board first in singles with a straight-set win at No. 6, making it 2–0. DeSisto followed with a decisive victory at No. 1 singles to extend the lead to 3–0.

The clinching point came from Camden Poitras (Londonderry, N.H.) at No. 4 singles, who secured the match for the Hawks and punched their ticket to the CNE Championship.

Roger Williams controlled play throughout the match, winning key points early and maintaining momentum across the lineup as the remaining matches were halted once the four-point threshold was reached.

No. 1 Roger Williams (17-5, 10-1 CNE) will host No. 2 Nichols on Saturday, May 2 at 12:00 pm on the RWU Tennis Courts, with the Hawks looking for their first title since the 2020-21 season.
