BEVERLY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team fell to Endicott College 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 25-19) in Conference of New England action Saturday afternoon at MacDonald Gymnasium.
For the Hawks, Peyton Felix (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) recorded a team-high 15 kills to go with seven digs, four total blocks and a service ace. Angela West (Riverview, Fla.) added 11 kills and six digs, while Ava McGonagle (Reading, Mass.) distributed 22 assists and contributed seven digs, three kills and an ace. Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) anchored the defense with a match-high 23 digs and four assists. Adele Kasper (Parsippany, N.J.) finished with four kills on a .429 hitting percentage and four block assists.
For Endicott, Hadley Helenbrook led the offense with 15 kills, 10 digs and three service aces. Jacquelyn Marion added 13 kills on a .476 hitting percentage and three block assists, while Angelina Fitzharris recorded 11 kills on a .296 clip. Hannah Maguire directed the offense with 43 assists and nine digs, and Tess Bartholomew collected 20 digs.
Endicott held a 58-39 advantage in kills and finished with a .207 hitting percentage compared with RWU's .129 mark. The Hawks controlled the net with a 10-5.5 advantage in total blocks, but the Gulls recorded 10 service aces while limiting Roger Williams to three.
The opening set featured 12 ties and five lead changes. Roger Williams took a 22-21 advantage late in the frame, but Endicott scored the final four points to earn a 25-22 victory.
RWU responded by building a 12-3 lead in the second set. Endicott rallied to tie the frame at 19-19 and later pulled ahead 22-21, but kills from Felix and Kasper gave the Hawks a 23-22 edge. After the Gulls tied the score once more, Felix delivered consecutive kills to close out the 25-23 win.
Roger Williams opened the third set with a 6-2 advantage before Endicott answered with a 12-4 run to move in front, 14-10. The Gulls extended their lead to 18-11 and held off a late three-point RWU run to take the set, 25-20.
Endicott built a 7-3 advantage in the fourth before the Hawks rallied to take a 15-13 lead behind consecutive kills from Claire Davis (Trumbull, Conn.), Hernandez and West. The Gulls responded with five straight points and pulled away for a 25-19 victory despite RWU hitting .312 with just one attacking error in the frame.
Roger Williams (5-9, 1-1 CNE) returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 30, when it travels to Providence, R.I., to face Johnson & Wales University at 5 p.m.
