Men's Soccer: Jastrab Lifts Hawks Past Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Junior forward Tyler Jastrab (Townsend, Mass.) scored during the second half as the Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team defeated Framingham State University, 1-0, Tuesday evening at Maple Street Field.

The Hawks controlled the match with advantages in shots, 32-4, shots on goal, 16-3, and corner kicks, 5-2. Roger Williams generated 20 shots and placed 11 on goal during the second half.

Jastrab scored his first goal of the season and finished with four shots, including two on target. Louis Hawkins (Norwich, Conn.) led RWU with six attempts and placed two on goal, while Dylan Thomas (Norwalk, Conn.) recorded four shots, including three on target.

Ollie Hamilton (North Chittenden, Vt.) added three shots and placed two on goal. Kevin DeCapua (Old Saybrook, Conn.) finished with three attempts.

Todd Machowski (Marlborough, Conn.) stopped all three shots he faced to earn his second shutout of the season and improve to 3-0-0.

Colin Holt made 15 saves for Framingham State. Thiago Magalhaes, Graham Tinkham and Samuel Rodrigues each placed one shot on goal for the Rams.

Roger Williams applied pressure immediately, forcing Holt to stop attempts from Hamilton and Hawkins during the opening nine minutes. Thomas, DeCapua and Peyton Luther (Roanoke, Va.) also placed first-half shots on goal, but Holt made five saves to keep the match scoreless entering halftime.

The Hawks continued attacking after the break, recording eight shots over the opening 14 minutes of the second half. Machowski preserved the tie with a save on Magalhaes in the 56th minute.

Jastrab broke through at 65:37, scoring an unassisted goal to give Roger Williams a 1-0 advantage.

The Hawks placed eight more shots on goal following Jastrab's tally, but Holt kept the Rams within one. Machowski made his final save with 19 seconds remaining, denying Rodrigues to secure the shutout.

Roger Williams (5-1-3, 1-0-2 CNE) returns to Conference of New England action against Salve Regina University on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Bayside Field.
