Field Hockey: Hawks Rout Gordon College, 6-0, Behind Four Goal Scorers

Brodie Loveland and Mikayla Hanel each score twice as four different Hawks find the back of the cage in dominant road victory

WENHAM, Mass. — The Roger Williams University field hockey team erupted for six goals Wednesday evening, cruising past Gordon College, 6-0, at Brigham Turf. The Hawks improved to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in Conference of New England play, while holding the Fighting Scots without a shot throughout the contest.

Hawks Strike Early

Roger Williams wasted little time getting on the board, as Eva Wood (Sandwich, Mass.) opened the scoring just 2:55 into the contest off an assist from Brodie Loveland (West Milford, N.J.). The goal marked Wood's eighth of the season and gave the Hawks an early 1-0 advantage.

Just under four minutes later, Megan Garthee (Barnstable, Mass.) doubled the Hawks' advantage at 6:53, converting another feed from Loveland. Roger Williams carried a 2-0 lead into the second quarter.

Hawks Keep the Pressure On

The offensive pressure continued into the second quarter, with Roger Williams registering 11 shots in the frame. Mikayla Hanel (Ridgefield, Conn.) found the back of the cage at 16:25, scoring her first goal of the season off an assist from McKenzie Foley (Hanover, Mass.).

The Hawks took a 3-0 lead into halftime and finished the first half with 17 shots, including nine shots on goal.

Hawks Pull Away

Roger Williams added two more goals in the third quarter to put the game firmly out of reach. Loveland scored at 39:18, this time assisted by Eva Wood (Sandwich, Mass.), extending the Hawks' lead to 4-0.

Hanel followed at 43:43, recording her second goal of the night off an assist from Katie Flanagan (Madison, Conn.). The Hawks carried a 5-0 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Garthee Caps the Shutout

Megan Garthee (Barnstable, Mass.) capped the scoring at 53:33, finding the cage off assists from Anna Kruggel (Scituate, Mass.) and Loveland to give Roger Williams its final 6-0 margin. Garthee finished with two goals on two shots, while Loveland recorded one goal and three assists. Wood added one goal and one assist on six shots, while Hanel finished with two goals on four shots, all of which were on goal.

The Hawks finished with a commanding 29-0 advantage in shots and 15-0 edge in shots on goal, while earning 10 penalty corners.

Goalkeepers Meili Raspante (Cotuit, Mass.) and Shae O'Neill (Medway, Mass.) each played 30 minutes and combined for the shutout, with neither goalkeeper required to make a save.
