BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team concluded the RWU Invitational with a pair of losses on Saturday at the Campus Recreation Center. Roger Williams fell to Amherst College 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-14) before dropping a 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-19) decision to Babson College.
For the Hawks, Angela West (Riverview, Fla.) led the offense with 14 kills on a .364 hitting percentage across the two matches. Peyton Felix (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) added 12 kills, while Rylie Eisenhard (Pottstown, Pa.) finished with eight. Ava McGonagle (Reading, Mass.) distributed 28 assists and recorded 11 digs and three service aces. Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) anchored the back row with 21 digs and two aces.
For Amherst, Gabrielle Hines recorded 11 kills, eight digs and a service ace, while Raegan Lentz added 10 kills. Tiana Richardson finished with eight kills on a .727 hitting percentage, and Stella Jacey delivered five service aces. Babson was led by Hailey Fouche, Lia Gonzalez and Liberty May with seven kills apiece. Gonzalez and May each hit .500, while Misaki Harte recorded six service aces. Zoe Ackerman directed the Beavers with 30 assists, and Sabina Frosk collected 10 digs.
Amherst 3, Roger Williams 0
Amherst built a 16-8 advantage in the opening set before Roger Williams fought back to pull within three at 21-24. The Mammoths secured the next point to take the set, 25-21.
The second frame featured 14 ties and seven lead changes. RWU used a 6-2 run to turn a 14-11 deficit into a 17-16 advantage and later moved ahead 22-21 on a Felix kill. Amherst responded by scoring the final four points to earn a 25-22 victory. Roger Williams opened the third set with a 5-2 lead, but the Mammoths answered and pulled away for a 25-14 win.
West led the Hawks with eight kills on a .412 hitting percentage, while Felix also recorded eight kills. McGonagle distributed 17 assists, and Hernandez finished with 12 digs and two service aces.
Babson 3, Roger Williams 0
Babson broke open the first set behind an 11-point service run from Harte that included six aces, turning an 8-4 advantage into a 20-4 lead. The Beavers closed the frame with a 25-10 victory.
The teams battled to an 11-11 tie in the second before Babson used a 7-1 run to create an 18-12 advantage and went on to win, 25-17. The Beavers opened a 9-3 lead in the third and eventually reached match point at 24-15. Roger Williams answered with four consecutive points before Babson secured the final point for a 25-19 victory.
West paced RWU with six kills on a .312 hitting percentage, while Eisenhard added six kills. McGonagle recorded 11 assists, nine digs and two service aces, and Hernandez contributed nine digs.
Roger Williams returns to the Paolino Recreation Center on Tuesday, Sept. 8, when it hosts Tufts University at 6 p.m.
