BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2026 season, falling to Hobart, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Bayside Field.
Hobart (3-0-0, 0-0-0 Liberty League) scored twice during the opening half before adding its final goal early in the second period. Roger Williams played the final 65 minutes with 10 players following a red card in the 25th minute.
The Statesmen finished with a 12-9 advantage in shots and a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Roger Williams earned four corner kicks to Hobart's three and committed six fouls compared with nine by the Statesmen.
Senior goalkeeper Eliot Panaccione (Pepperell, Mass.) recorded four saves for the Hawks. Forward Tyler Jastrab (Townsend, Mass.) led RWU with two shots, placing both on goal, while Aidan Jennings (San Diego, Calif.) added two attempts and one shot on target. Defender Cole Merriam (Haddam, Conn.) and Ollie Hamilton (North Chittenden, Vt.) also placed shots on goal.
Sophomore forward Tommy Broderick led Hobart with two goals on two shots. Senior midfielder Quinn Phillips added a goal, while junior goalkeeper Jake Hans (Livingston, N.J.) made five saves over 85:36 to help the Statesmen secure the shutout.
The Statesmen struck first in the 7th minute, when they swapped field to Panaccione's right, and La Zai Outerbridge found Will Slayton, who then crossed the ball in to Phillips for the opening goal.
Roger Williams responded with three consecutive shots on goal between the 17th and 20th minutes, but Hans denied attempts from Jennings, Jastrab and Merriam. The Hawks were reduced to 10 players following a red card at the 24:28 mark, though Hamilton forced another save from Hans less than three minutes later.
Broderick doubled Hobart's advantage in the closing seconds of the first half, scoring off an assist from Griffin Coutts. He completed the scoring in the 49th minute when he converted a feed from Daniel Scali.
Jastrab registered the Hawks' lone shot on goal of the second half in the 61st minute, but Hans made the save to preserve the shutout.
Roger Williams (2-1-0, 0-0-0 CNE) concludes its three-match homestand against MIT on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Bayside Field.
