BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University men's soccer team returned to the win column with a 2-1 non-conference victory over MIT on Tuesday evening at Bayside Field.

Roger Williams received two first-half goals from Ollie Hamilton (North Chittenden, Vt.) and carried a 2-0 advantage into halftime. MIT cut the deficit in half during the 80th minute, but the Hawks protected their lead over the final 10 minutes.

The Hawks finished with a 16-8 advantage in shots, placed six attempts on goal and held 60% of the possession. MIT put four shots on target and earned nine corner kicks compared with four by Roger Williams.

Hamilton  led the RWU attack with two goals on three shots, placing all three attempts on target. Tyler Jastrab (Townsend, Mass.) and Dylan Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) each recorded an assist. Jastrab and Aidan Jennings (San Diego, Calif.) shared the team lead with three shots.

Sophomore goalkeeper Todd Machowski (Marlborough, Conn.) made three saves to improve to 2-0-0 in goal.

Keegan Harrison led MIT with a goal and placed both of his shots on target. Jonah Gurion added two shots, while Nicolas Santos-Shin recorded four saves.

Machowski was tested first, stopping a shot from Harrison in the seventh minute. Roger Williams responded with pressure at the opposite end before Hamilton opened the scoring at the 15:17 mark off a feed from Robbins.

Hamilton doubled the Hawks' advantage in the 26th minute, converting a pass from Jastrab for his fourth goal of the season. Roger Williams finished the opening half with a 10-6 advantage in shots and placed five attempts on goal.

The Hawks continued to create opportunities after halftime, with Santos-Shin denying Hamilton's bid for a third goal in the 60th minute.

MIT pulled within one at the 79:46 mark when Harrison scored unassisted following consecutive Engineers corner kicks. Roger Williams limited MIT to one shot over the remaining time to secure the victory.

Roger Williams (3-1, 0-0 CNE) opens Conference of New England play at Wentworth on Saturday, Sept. 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Boston.
