When an Athlete is injured, the Athletic Trainer will decide if the injury requires EMS. The following procedure will be followed:

1. ATC will initiate a primary survey and evaluate the injury.
2. Stabilize all life-threatening situations of the athlete.
3. Instruct a coach or administrator on duty to contact Public Safety/EMS if needed.
4. Continue with evaluation, stabilization, and/or life saving techniques until Public Safety/EMS arrives.
5. Designate a coach or administrator to escort the athlete to the Hospital with EMS.


If the Athletic Trainer is not on site and cannot be reached, designate someone to call Public Safety and ask for assistance. Then the following procedure will be followed:

1. Stabilize the athlete.
2. The person designated to contact Public Safety or EMS and identify yourself, your location, describe the situation, and ask for an ambulance, if needed.
3. Provide emergency care until Public Safety/EMS arrives and takes over.
4. Provide information regarding the injury to Public Safety/EMS.
5. Inform the Athletic Trainer of the situation

Bayside Turf Field (Men’s & Women's soccer, Field Hockey, Men’s & Women's lacrosse)

· All Gates should be unlocked prior to any event for access to field.
· Mode of Communication- Cell phone use or Blue Light by the Press Box.
· AED Location: With ATC on site during all Varsity contests and practices. Coaches will know if an ATC is going to be at their practice. If there is no ATC, please be advised to wait for public safety.
· Ambulance Entrance: Ambulance enters campus on North Road and parks alongside the north entrance to the field.

Baseball Field/Paolino

· All gates should be unlocked prior to any event for field access. If an emergency requires an ambulance, remove barriers at both ends of concourse.
· Mode of Communication: cell phone or call box behind first base dugout/press box.
· AED Location: With ATC on site for Games, the nearest AED for practices is located in the lobby of the recreation center.
· Ambulance Entrance: North Campus Road, take right onto concourse, drive to first base dugout, enter field.

Softball Field/Paolino

· All gates should be unlocked before any event for field access.
· Mode of Communication: cell phone
· AED Location: With ATC on site for Games, the nearest AED for practices is located in the lobby of the recreation center on the wall.
· Ambulance Entrance: enter using North Campus Road, take a right into the Law School entrance, and enter via the gate behind 3rd base dugout.

Tennis Courts

· All gates should be unlocked before events for access.
· Mode of Communication: cell phone
· AED Location: With ATC for Matches, no AED for practices.
· Ambulance will park on the road or the access road for the North Campus Residence Hall.

North Field Complex

· Gates should be unlocked before events for emergency access.
· Mode of Communication: cell phone
· AED location: With ATC for varsity sports, AED with club sports ATC, no AED for practices.
· Ambulance Entrance: through North Campus Road, enter via dirt road after fields on the right.

Sailing/Waterfront

· Roadway should be clear for any emergency access; always check the parking situation.
· Mode of Communication: cell phone or Blue Light Phone.
· AED Location: Sailing Center by the 1st floor elevator.
· Ambulance Entrance: through North Campus Road, along Bayside, and take the roadway towards the waterfront.

Recreation Center-Gymnasium

· Mode of Communication: Landline in Recreation Center/Cell Phone.
· AED Location: during varsity contests with ATC, also located in the lobby by the main entrance on the wall.
· Ambulance uses the entrance in the main lobby and uses the elevator or uses stairs in the Commons.

Recreation Center-Pool/Diving

· Mode of Communication: landline in the Pool Office or cell phone
· AED Location: during varsity contests with ATC, also located in the lobby by the main entrance on the wall.
· Ambulance uses the main entrance of the Recreation Center and accesses using the elevator.

Recreation Center Field House

· Always make sure the garage door in Field House is clear on both sides.
· AED Location is by the main entrance on the wall.
· Mode of Communication: landline in offices or cell phone
· Team members need to open the gate by Parking Lot 11/12 to allow the ambulance to enter the Field House.
· Ambulance Entrance: ambulance enters through the main gate, left into lot 11/12 access road, back up to the garage door.

Portsmouth High School (Track & Field)

· Coaches are fully responsible for contacting 911 when off campus
· AED brought by the ATC on site.
· Follow Emergency protocol: Listed above if no ATC is onsite.
· Mode of Communication: cell phone.
· Ambulance Entrance: completely up to Bristol Fire & Rescue.

Driscoll Skating Arena (Fall River, MA)

Mode of Communication: Cell phone
AED located in the main lobby to the Left of the front desk
Ambulance Entrance: Front gate of the parking lot and through the front door of the building. Entrance to the ice is determined by the location of the injury.
