Joseph Franchino

Joseph Franchino will begin his first season as an assistant coach for the Roger Williams University Women’s Soccer team for the fall of 2009.

 

Franchino brings a wealth of knowledge to the RWU program, after having spent ten seasons playing professionally in Major League Soccer. Drafted by the Los Angeles Galaxy in 1998, he spent two seasons in L.A. before being traded to the New England Revolution, where he appeared in 162 games over eight seasons.

 

Prior to being drafted, Franchino finished his collegiate career at the University of Washington after transferring from Cal State Fullerton, where he earned Third Team All-America honors from the NSCAA. In addition, he was selected to Soccer America’s national All-Freshman Team in 2004.

 

Franchino also brings international experience to the Hawks, with two separate stints with the United States National Team. He was a member of the team in 2000 and was part of the U.S. Under-21 National Team in 1994.

 

His coaching experience includes the varsity team at Foxboro High School and the junior varsity team at Dover-Sherborn High School.
