BRISTOL, R.I. – Sophomore Tony Trafecanty (Franklin, Mass.) of the Roger Williams University Baseball team was named RWU Male Athlete of the Week after his outstanding play helped the Hawks to a strong start to the 2011 season.

The Hawks opened their season Saturday in Orlando, Fla. facing Clark University in an afternoon doubleheader. In the first game Trafecanty registered a home run along with two RBI before moving to the mound for game two where he earned the win, allowing five runs (four earned) in 5.1 innings. Along the way he also struck out eight to help the Hawks to the 13-5 victory. 

The team was back on the field the next day for a doubleheader against Babson College. Trafecanty went 2-for-3 in the first game and scored one run to lead RWU to the 5-4 win before the Beavers earned the 4-3 win in game two.

The team continues its week in Orlando, Fla., playing doubleheaders against Bowdoin, Worcester State, Westfield State and a single game against Keene State. The Hawks first home contest is scheduled for March 23 against Rhode Island College. The first pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
