Men’s Hoops grabs road win

NEW LONDON, Conn. –  The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 68-62 win over U.S. Coast Guard Academy Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks were led by Michael Woolley (Seattle, Wash) and Pat Flanagan (Somerville, Mass.), who each scored 14 points off the bench to help RWU towards its second win of the season. Woolley shot 5-of-10 from the field with four three pointers, while Flanagan was a perfect 7-of-7 in the game.

RWU withstood a 30-point effort from Coast Guard's Craig Johnson to hold on for the win. The Hawks went into the break hold a 35-31 advantage and led throughout most of the second half. Johnson gave Coast Guard its first lead of the period with a jumper at the 8:50 mark to make it a 51-50 game.

The lead fluctuated back and forth until a Flanagan jumper put the Hawks up 61-60 with 3:50 to play. From that point, the Hawks nursed the lead and sunk six of their seven free throws with under a minute to play to hold on for the win.

Roger Williams (2-3) will go down to Newport Tuesday evening for a non-conference matchup beginning at 7:00 p.m.
