Men’s Basketball overcome 1st half shooting woes for win

WENHAM, Mass. –  The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team overcame a low-scoring first half to rally for its third straight conference win Wednesday afternoon, as the Hawks defeated Gordon College 50-37.

Both team had difficulty shooting the ball in the first half, with the Hawks going 5-for-24 from the field while the Fighting Scots shot 6-for-33. By the end of the period, the poor offense from each squad led to only 24 points in the period being scored, with Gordon leading 14-10 at the break.

In the second half, the RWU offense picked up dramatically, hitting 60% in the half on 12-of-20 shooting. The Hawks rallied from a ten-point deficit early in the second period, going on a 15-2 run over a five-minute stretch to turn a 23-13 hole into a 28-25 lead with 11:16 to play.

RWU would never trail again after taking the lead. The Hawks quadrupled their effort from the first half, pouring in 40 points in the period.

Pat Flanagan (Somerville, Mass.) led the Hawks with 11 points and nine rebounds. Travis O'Dell (Brunswick, Maine) added seven points and five boards, while Ryan McGinn (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) chipped in with eight points and nine rebounds off the bench.

Aaron Trigg led the Fighting Scots with 16 points and seven rebounds. Greg Walker added six points and five rebounds.

Roger Williams (7-8, 3-1 TCCC) returns home Saturday to host New England College at 3:00 p.m.
