Win streak stopped at five for Men’s Basketball

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Freshman Will Bardaglio (Wayne, Maine) had a career-high 26 points to lead Colby-Sawyer to a 68-59 victory over Roger Williams. The Chargers improve to 14-4 overall and 6-1 in the commonwealth coast conference. Roger Williams suffers just its second conference loss (5-2) and moves to 9-9 overall.

Colby-Sawyer jumped out to an early 14-4 lead as senior Duncan Szeliga (Newmarket, N.H.) scored seven of his 11 first-half points. The Chargers took advantage of 11 Hawks turnovers in the first 20 minutes, scoring 10 points. The Chargers held a nine-point lead at the break in good part to knocking down 10 of 11 free throws. The Hawks were able to stay within striking distance as they received 17 out of their 21 points from off the bench.

Leading Roger Williams in the first half was senior Tucker Bashaw (Williston, Vt.) who tallied eight points. Sophomore Kyle Bogucki (Clinton, Conn.) had seven points in the first stanza.

The second half was a grind it out 20 minutes of basketball as both teams piled up the fouls. The Hawks found themselves trailing by two at 36-34 five minutes into the second. The Chargers pushed their lead back to 10 five minutes later, but the Hawks came flying back once again behind the play of freshman Pat Flanagan (Somerville, Mass.). Flanagan scored all of his 14 points in the second half and grabbed six rebounds.

However, just when Roger Williams thought they could pull even, Bardaglio nailed one of his six three-pointers. He scored 18 of his 26 in the second half to lead the Chargers to victory. Despite holding a 36-25 advantage in rebounding, Colby-Sawyer held the edge in second chance points 11-6.

Bashaw finished with 13 points and Bogucki ended with 11 points for the Hawks.

Szeliga finished the game with 13 points giving him double-figures for the 14th time this season. Junior Jon Chaloux (Barre, Vt.) recorded 10 points and six rebounds before fouling out. Senior Matt Lemieux (Manchester, N.H.) rounded out four Chargers in double-figures with 10 points.

The Chargers travel to Endicott on Wednesday, February 4 for a 6:00 p.m. tip time. Roger Williams hosts Salve Regina Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
