Comeback win for Women's Soccer over Colby-Sawyer

Box Score

NEW LONDON, N.H. –The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team came back from a 1-0 deficit to beat Colby-Sawyer, 2-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action, on Thursday afternoon.  The win improves the Hawks' record to 6-3-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the conference. Colby-Sawyer falls to 4-3-3 overall and 1-2-2 in TCCC play.

The Chargers took an early lead four minutes into the contest on freshman Emily Brown's (Rye, N.H.) second goal of the season. Brown, who was 30 yards away from the net, received a pass from sophomore Abby Wills (Uxbridge, Mass.) and proceeded to fire a shot that just snuck under the crossbar giving Colby-Sawyer a 1-0 advantage.

After trailing, 1-0 for the first 24 minutes of the contest, the Roger Williams offense controlled the ball for the remainder of the half. The Hawks found the equalizer when senior Amanda daCunha (Wethersfield, Conn.) drove the ball down the right flank and scooted the ball into the box. Sophomore Noelle Marston (Kingston, Mass.) was waiting in front of the keeper when the ball found her foot and she struck it into the back of the net to tie the game.

In the 32nd minute, the Hawks pressure once again paid off as they took a 2-1 lead on a goal by sophomore Laurin Pendleton (Southwick, Mass.). Roger Williams was awarded a corner, which resulted in Marston getting control of the ball and finding Pendleton in the middle of the box.

Colby-Sawyer had two more good chances to even the game at two, but was denied each time by spectacular saves from senior goalie Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.). Freshman Shalyn Spencer (Natick, Mass.) suffered her first loss and made five saves for the Chargers.

Colby-Sawyer hosts Gordon at noon on Saturday, October 3. The Hawks will travel to Eastern Nazarene on Saturday for a 1:00 pm start.
