NEWTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team stepped out of conference play Tuesday evening and picked up a 3-0 win over Lasell College to move to 11-8 on the season.
The Hawks finished the first set with a 25-15 win, followed by a 25-13 victory to take a 2-0 lead. RWU wrapped up the match by winning the final set by a 25-19 score. The Hawk defense held the Lasers to a poor hitting night, as Lasell swung -.029 in the match.
"It felt like both teams were struggling offensively tonight which is a credit to the defensive players on the court," said RWU Head Coach Bret Stothart. "We definitely were frustrated with our inability to put the ball away, but I was encouraged by the way we blocked and played disciplined defense around our block."
Rebekah Dion (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and Kristina Dolan (Glenmont, N.Y.) each had eight kills for the Hawks, in addition to six blocks for Dion and five for Dolan. Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, Conn.) contributed 27 assists, while Jill Hurd (Sunapee, N.H.) finished with 22 digs.
Roger Williams (11-8) will head up north to take on Worcester Polytechnic Institute Thursday evening at 7:00, while Lasell (9-20) gets little time to rest, hosting its second TCCC foe in as many days with Salve Regina arriving tomorrow for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
