BRISTOL, R.I. – A strong performance by the seniors on Senior Day helped the Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team finish the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 91-66 win over Eastern Nazarene College.
Seniors Tucker Bashaw (Williston, Vt.), Michael Woolley (Seattle, Wash.), Ryan McGinn (Plattsburgh, N.Y.), and Billy Barrett (Fairfield, Conn.) combined for 63 points in the Hawks' highest-scoring game of the season. Bashaw led all scorers with 26 to go along with eight assists, while Barrett added 23.
Prolific shooting from the field pushed the Hawks towards the win, hitting a season-best .640 (32-50) from the field.
Eastern Nazarene had an easier time in the first half, keeping up with RWU's shooting, hitting 58.3 percent (14-24) from the field in the period. Trailing by as many as 14, the Crusaders pulled within four in the closing seconds of the half before Barrett's layup as time expired put RWU up 46-40 going into the break.
The hot shooting for the Crusaders promptly ended in the second half, as Eastern Nazarene was held to only 25 percent (7-28) shooting in the period. Conversely, the Hawks jumped out for nine quick points in the second half on three treys on consecutive possessions, two by Barrett and one by Bashaw to take a 15-point lead in the opening three minutes. From that point, the Hawks maintained its double-digit lead to the final buzzer.
DiAndre Brown (Sicklerville, N.J.) led the Crusaders with 15 points and eight rebounds, while teammate Kevin Carr (Westminster, Md.) added 12 off the bench. DeAngelo Alston (Columbia, S.C.) and Alex Carr (Westminster, Md.) each scored ten for ENC.
Roger Williams (12-13, 8-5 TCCC) clinches the sixth seed for The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament. The Hawks will travel to play third-seeded Gordon College Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Nazarene finishes the season 7-18 with a 4-9 record in the TCCC.
