Men’s Tennis drops spring opener

BRISTOL, R.I.The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team faltered in its opening match of the spring season, falling 8-1 to Stonehill College Saturday afternoon.

 

The #3 doubles pair of Kyle Baker (Bolton, Conn.) and Jeff Agonia (Lincoln, R.I.) earned the sole win on the day for the Hawks, taking an 8-6 decision over Jon Burke and Matt Pacino.

 

Ryan Kim (Port Washington, N.Y.) had one of the Hawks closest fought matches of the day, a three-set #2 singles loss to Mike Leone. Kim dropped the first set, 1-6, before rallying to win the second 6-1. Leone would go on to win the third 6-1 to earn the victory.

 

In the other two doubles matches on the day, the Hawks fell by a pair of 3-8 scores. Kim and Brad Bolte (Augusta, N.J.) fell to Jason Allegretti and Will Herchel in #1 doubles, while Dan Kleitz (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Nicholas Hawvermale (Bethlehem, Conn.) lost their #2 doubles match to Leone and Tim Fayed.

 

David Lange (Great Neck, N.Y.) dropped his lone match of the day, a 1-6, 4-6 decision in #4 singles to Herchel.

 

Roger Williams (0-1) will take on the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth March 7 at Forecourt Tennis in Cumberland, Rhode Island.
