BRISTOL, R.I. – A strong offensive effort by the Roger Williams Women's Soccer team led the Hawks to the shutout Anna Maria College Saturday afternoon, accomplishing the final score of 6-0.
Anna Maria could not hold down the Hawks' offense, as RWU out-shot Anna Maria 56-1 in the game. AMCat goalkeeper Skylor Miller (Laconia, N.H.) suffered the loss allowing in six goals, but made 13 saves in the day.
Within the first minute and a half, Noelle Marston (Kingston, Mass.) made two goals, foreshadowing the domination that would continue throughout the game. Laurin Pendleton (Southwick, Mass.) assisted with a short pass to Marston 48 seconds in. Less than a minute later, Amanda daCunha's (Wethersfield, Conn.) long outlet pass gave Marston the opportunity to outrun an AMCat defender and chip a goal to the left post. daCunha kicked another extensive pass at the 14:10 mark to Carey Baldwin (West Hartford, Conn.) standing in the center of the box who proceeded to score. After a corner kick by Alexa Maher (Hopewell, N.J.) with ten minute to play in the half, Heidi Kunkel (Northfield, Vt.) headed the bouncing ball into the goal.
Early in the second half, Maddy Howard (Medfield, Mass.) received a pass from Kristen Metcalf (Londonderry, N.H.) and quickly turned around, shooting it into the box. Two freshmen, Leigh Klar (Easton, Conn.) and Erynne Landry(Lewiston, Maine) worked together to attain the last goal of the day. Landry knock a through ball to Klar in the middle to the box, where Klar put a shot past the AMCat goalie 62 minutes into the game.
The AMCats lone shot on goal came at the 38:47 mark when Maggie Sielawa (Webster, Mass.) chipped a shot from outside the middle of the penalty area where Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.) was able to record the Hawks only save of the game.
Roger Williams (4-2-1, 2-0-0 TCCC) will be returning to the field in Newport, R.I. at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday the 23rd challenging Salve Regina University. Anna Maria (1-6-0, 0-2-0 TCCC) will be playing New England College on their home ground in Paxton, Massachusetts at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday also.
