Volleyball sweeps WNEC for eighth-straight win

BRISTOL, R.I. – The RWU Women's Volleyball team picked up its eighth consecutive victory with a 3-0 road win over Western New England College Wednesday night in The Commonwealth Coast Competition. RWU improves to 7-0 in TCCC play, defeating the Golden Bears by the scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-20.

RWU senior Rebekah Dion (Old Saybrook, Conn.) posted a double-double on the night with 11 kills and 12 digs, while chipping in two blocks and one service ace. Sophomore Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, Conn.) tallied 12.33 assists per set while the team totaled 42 kills overall.

Both RWU libero, Jill Hurd (Sunapee, N.H.), and WNEC libero, Marci Egbert (Wayne, N.J.), contributed 16 digs on the night.

WNEC was led offensively by freshman outside hitter Maureen Pollet (Dix Hills, N.Y.) with 10 kills, helped primarily by senior setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) who dished out 22 assists.

RWU improves to 21-3 on the year with a perfect 7-0 mark in TCCC play, while the Golden Bears fall to 8-12 overall and 4-2 in the TCCC. WNEC returns to action Saturday as they host Elmira at 11 a.m. and WPI at 3 p.m. RWU travels to New London, Conn., to face Babson College at 1 p.m. and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy at 3 p.m.
