Women's Soccer readying for the NCAA Tournament

BRISTOL R.I. – With the unveiling of the NCAA National Tournament Bracket, the Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team earns a trip to upstate New York, where the Hawks will be traveling to Oneonta to take on SUNY Oneonta on Friday, November 12 at 11:00 a.m.

The Hawks earned their bid to the NCAA tournament by winning the Commonwealth Coast Conference. They finished the year with a 16-4-1 overall record, and a very impressive 13-0-0-conference record. Roger Williams had an outstanding nine players selected to the All-TCCC team. Junior Laurin Pendleton (Southwick, Mass.) received TCCC Player of the Year honors while freshman Hannah Noel (Adams, Mass.) received TCCC Rookie of the Year. Katie Fusaro (Hopkinton, Mass.) joined Pendleton on the All-TCCC First Team while Julie Moody (Plymouth, Mass.) and Noelle Marston (Kingston, Mass.) earned 2nd team honors. Alexa Maher (Hopewell, N.J.), Michelle Meagher (Sudbury, Mass.), Taryn Roussel (Ivorytown, Conn.), and Maddy Howard (Medfield, Mass.) all earned All-TCCC Honorable Mention.

This marks the Hawks' second NCAA tournament appearance in three years. Two years back, the team won their first NCAA Tournament match against the University of Rochester to advance to the 2nd round. In their 2nd round matchup, the Hawks drew Ithaca College, where their impressive season was capped off after a 2-0 loss to the Bombers.

SUNY Oneonta finished the season with a 15-4-1 overall record and a 7-1-1 record in the conference. Freshman Karly DeSimone (Clifton Park, N.Y.) earned SUNYAC Rookie of the Year honors, after finishing the year 3rd on the team in goals and points. The Red Dragons earned their bid to the NCAA Tournament by defeating SUNY Plattsburgh 2-1 in the SUNYAC championship. The win gave them their 11th conference title. The Red Dragons have appeared regularly in the NCAA National Tournament, making it onto the 2nd round last season before falling to Williams College in the 2nd round.

The winner of this match will advance to the regional championship, which will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against the winner of the University of Rochester/Western Connecticut State University match.
